2011 Wheeler Dodgeball Benefit Tournament

It's just around the corner (August 13, 2011) and these fun invitations just went out publicizing the tournament's new bigger and better facility. Last year the tournament drew close to 60 teams all dressed up in hilarious costumes, it was a blast. Over the last 3 years the Wheeler Benefit Foundation has been able to donate over $70,000 to charities in Hampton Roads. It's a great cause so if you're looking to participate just visit the link below for more information.

Last month I redesigned the tournament web site (with wonderful development by WebFX Creative) for easy navigation with a built in CMS system for my client.

The Investment MD

Dr. Zach Stroud and Dr. Rocco Molinaro have launched The Investment MD after feeling like there was not one central place online or in print that could answer their specific questions about handling their individual finances as med students (and later as doctors). When they did find some help, it often was not tailored specifically to physicians which led to the launch of this web site that provides investment know-how and advice specifically for MDs.

They approached me about designing a brand identity for them which I had a great time creating. I think the solution marries together both investing and the medicinal career world.

Inspiration Vacation

I'm finally back from my latest trip to Puerto Rico, and although this post is short, I thought I'd use it to showcase some photos I took that are serving as inspiration for me. The town of Luquillo was filled with beatiful colors and textures and was so rich I know that I'll be drawing from it for months to come. Enjoy.

Identity Package: Carey Von Ohlen

I'm excited to show off my latest identity package, created for writer Carey Von Ohlen. Carey writes for magazines, online publications and for businesses in need of web and technical copy.

Carey was looking for an identity that was fresh and fun while still coming across as professional and clean. Below are 4 of the original concepts I presented as well as the final logo, business card, letterhead and envelopes.

Site Applications is a full-service facility company equipped to handle work requests in almost any area of building or home maintenance. They approached me to create a unique bathroom sponsorship campaign for two summer events: the Chesapeake Bay Wine Classic and the Wheeler Dodgeball Benefit Tournament.

I had a great time creating the below poster that was displayed on the inside of stall doors at the events. We also worked with another company to create lifesize cutouts of the straining gentleman for placement inside the restrooms. This kind of advertising is wonderful because you can play off of the environment while really grabbing attention (and hopefully a few smiles). The posters (which were also resized to become an ad for the event programs) are memorable and great fun.

The last few weeks have been a monstrous blur, but I'll be back to blogging more regularly after August. I'm excited to say that I've been working on the packaging design and promotional materials for a new and exciting children's product. I can't name the product until it releases, but it's been great to complete some colorful and playful packaging (at break-neck speed). I can't wait for the product launch, and will be sure to post images of the work here once it's been made public.

This week I've been in Los Angeles attending the SCBWI conference where I've been rubbing elbows with great illustrators and children's book writers, and just soaking it all in. It'll be good to get back to Virginia!
